Pearl’s Product Principles: 2025 Edition

Three years ago, I published Pearl’s inaugural set of Product Principles, when our platform had just launched and we were still in the exciting (and equally anxious) stage of determining if we had built the right product to support our physician partners. So much has changed in those intervening three years! And, so much has stayed the same — these principles have been a grounding force for the Pearl Product team, and still resonate today.

A quick refresher on how we use these Product Principles: while our vision and strategy drive where we are going, and our metrics drive how we measure our progress, our Product Principles drive how we make product choices as we navigate the thousands of small and large decisions we make along the way. They serve as our guideposts. These guideposts have served us well, and have been particularly important as we have expanded our platform to support bigger and more complex clients, and additional value-based care programs. We always come back to the concepts of distillation and simplicity: how do we make the complex, clear? To that end, it is time to apply those same concepts to our Product Principles: same spirit, but cleaner and simpler. When I set out to do this simplification, I kept coming back to the three concepts I always use to describe our product when talking to clients, prospects, and investors: Patient-Centric, Action-Oriented, and Complexity, Simplified.
